John Choi became the Regional Head of Johnson & Johnson Innovation – JLABS Korea after a long career as a venture capitalist and serial entrepreneur. He was a co-founder and CBO of Hua Medicine in Shanghai (HK IPO), CEO and co-founder of Imvaq Therapeutics in New York (a spin-out of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center), and was a VC investor with such firms as Fidelity Asia Ventures and Venrock. Because of his varied experiences in the US, China and Korea, he has a unique perspective of understanding healthcare startups from many different angles: as a VC investor, as a Big Pharma partner, and as a startup founder. John has a Ph.D. in Biophysics from Harvard University, an M.D. from Cornell University Medical College, and a B.S. in Applied Mathematics and Physics from Yale College.
