Acurex Biosciences Corporation is a pharmaceutical company with a mission to halt major neurodegenerative diseases, starting with Parkinson’s disease (PD). Acurex was founded in 2019 based on a Stanford University breakthrough discovery around mitophagy, an essential mitochondrial quality control process. With exclusive rights to this intellectual property, Acurex has built an industrialized drug discovery platform that identifies targets responsible for mitophagy defects and the development of drugs to these targets. Out of these proprietary insights, Acurex has developed its first two therapeutic drug programs and a biomarker for Parkinson’s disease.
